Why it matters and how to achieve it:

Construction is one of the main contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of natural resources. However, it also has the potential to play an important role in reducing these impacts and creating a more sustainable future. In this blog post, we'll discuss the importance of sustainability in construction and provide some practical tips for achieving it.

Why is sustainability in construction important?

Construction is responsible for a significant part of global greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of natural resources. Cement production, the most widely used construction material, alone is responsible for 7% of global CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the energy used to heat, cool and light buildings accounts for almost 40% of global energy consumption.

In addition to environmental impacts, unsustainable construction practices also have social and economic consequences. For example, buildings that are not designed to be energy efficient may result in higher energy costs for tenants, while buildings that are not accessible to people with disabilities may prevent certain people from participating in society.

How to achieve sustainability in construction

There are several strategies that can be used to achieve sustainability in construction. Some of the most effective include:

Using sustainable building materials: This can include products made from recycled materials or those that are renewable, such as bamboo or wood.

Incorporate energy-efficient design – This can include installing energy-efficient windows, insulating walls and ceilings, and using renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind power.

Implementing Green Building Standards: Organizations like the U.S. Green Building Council have developed standards for sustainable construction, such as the certification LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

Encourage sustainable transportation: This can include providing bike storage or car sharing programs, or designing buildings to be located near public transportation.

Incorporate sustainable site development: This may include preserving natural habitats, reducing stormwater runoff, and using native plants in landscaping.

Sustainability in construction is not just about reducing the negative impacts of construction, but also about creating a more livable, equitable, and resilient built environment. By implementing the strategies outlined above, we can create buildings that not only minimize their environmental footprint, but also improve the overall quality of life for the people who use them.

In conclusion, sustainability in construction is a vital issue that requires attention and action. By using sustainable building materials, incorporating energy efficient design, implementing green building standards, promoting sustainable transportation, and incorporating sustainable site development, we can reduce the negative impacts of construction and create a more sustainable future.

AINCO develops and promotes sustainability

Under our values of continuous improvement, sustainability has always been one of our priorities in our search to be better every day. With our AINCO methodology of construction processes and the 7D dimension of B.I.M. We managed to implement sustainability in our projects from the conceptualization of the project.

Being the materials one of the main factors to the levels of impact on the environment AINCO has innovated in its construction materials such as sustainable steel, the concrete with CO2 emissions and with the sustainable use of wood as a structural material. We use and provide these materials to the industry for general adoption.

AINCO Under his philosophy of continuous improvement, he has trained his staff and works with business partners who are familiar with different sustainable construction standards such as: (L.E.E.D., BREEAM., among others.) in order to position ourselves as a value option for our clients and thus reduce their impact on the ecosystem.

We invite all interested parties to promote, demand, and train in sustainable construction since our industry AINCO (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) is positioned as a key player in the fight against climate change and in offering a better life for all people.
